The Dawn of a New Day
I often wake up at various times between midnight and 6am with thoughts I want to write down. For this reason I usually keep my journal and next to my bed, or as a backup a pad or two of paper in case I left my journal in my office.
Sometimes I am simply writing what happened the day before, in which case I date the page for the previous day and catch up on whatever happened and my comments during the darkness between the days.
But other times I want to write down something that has just occurred to me, and I’ve been confused as to whether the proper date is yesterday or tomorrow.
By the industrial clock, midnight starts the new day. So if I were to date the page by the clock it would be tomorrow.
But this morning, sitting in under the tiny light in my dark bedroom at 4:12am I realized that in experiential reality, the day doesn’t start until the dawn.
In earlier times, “day” was dawn-to-dusk and “night” was dusk-to-dawn.
So from now on, so too will my journal time be aligned with the sun instead of the clock.
Today starts at dawn and the darkness that follows is still today. Until the dawn the dawn comes again to start a new day.
It is things like industrial clocks that pull our alignment away from Life.
Reorienting ourselves to Life, even in this small way, is a start to realigning ourselves with Life.
DEBRA REDALIA, Co-Founder of Spirits Bright, became aware she was a spiritual being when her body was six years old, but didn't learn much about what that meant until she met soulmate Larry Redalia twenty-six years later. Together they have helped each other discover the characteristics of spirit and put them into practice in daily life. Since 2005, Debra and Larry have been writing Signs of Spirit stories—first person accounts of their true life adventures as spiritual belings. The are co-founders of Spirits Bright and The Signs of Spirit Project.
